LTTE's hawala networks in Tamil Nadu
Hawala transactions made from Tamil Nadu to aid LTTE in Sri Lanka have been a cause for significant concern for India. But the fact that the men arrested for making these transactions have close links with the ruling coalition in the state has been of particular embarrassment to the government.

Coast Guard seized a LTTE boat with explosives and arrested four men on board near Chennai recently
It was a wake-up call for Indian security agencies when the Coast Guard seized a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) boat laden with over 750 kilos of explosives a month ago near Chennai.
During interrogation the crew of the boat made startling revelations and exposed that the wide network of LTTE sympathisers is alive and thriving in Tamil Nadu.
Following leads given by those arrested on board the seized ship the Tamil Nadu police has busted multiple hawala networks in the past one week. The state police claim that it is one of the main methods by which money is being made available for procuring arms and weapons for the LTTE.
"One person has been arrested who was helping them through hawala transactions, and for financing the militant operations. He then led us to another operative, a smuggler from Tamil Nadu,” revealed D Mukherjee, Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu.
Three weeks ago, TIMES NOW had reported that central intelligence agencies were aware that the LTTE is reviving bases in India.
The Tamil Nadu police has submitted a report expressing concern over LTTE brokers, a name coined for Indian nationals who are aiding the LTTE to procure and transport arms.
In the last three months 41 people have been arrested and 25 of them are Indians.
"We will continue the crackdown, keeping in view the tense situation in Sri Lanka. We have to ensure that there is no infiltration to our side and similarly there is no supply of arms from here,” added Mukherjee.
The police are now investigating the source of money.
