NGO’s are Crows in Search of Dollars.

Sassanka Samarakkody – Reporting from Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Tamil Tigers demand for a separate mechanism to handle foreign aids amounts to challenging the sovereignty and integrity of Sri Lanka, alleged Wimal Weerawansa.

“The sole authority to handle foreign funds received by the State is the government of Sri Lanka. The demand by the LTTE for a separate mechanism to handle foreign aid surely will have an adverse impact on the sovereignty of the country,” said Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Member of Parliament and Deputy Leader of the National Patriotic Movement (NPM), Wimal Weerawansa.

He was addressing a rally held in Maharagama on Wednesday, organized by the National Patriotic Movement to expose what they claim "the NGO mafia, that's thriving on tsunami tears".

Weerawansa claimed that some of the foreign-funded NGOs (Non Governmental Organizations), as well as some of the foreign NGO's that were registered in Sri Lanka soon after the tsunami catastrophe, were "helping to divide the country."

The JVP firebrand MP said that the West was giving money to the INGO's (International NGOs) saying that the government was corrupt and inefficient and cannot handle the rehabilitation efforts after the tsunami. "This is done to weaken the government, country and the society, " he said and added that white people, the LTTE and local henchman join in the chorus to discredit the government.

Weerawansa told the gathering that the "NGO people have crept into a number of places including several ministries. It was a dangerous situation for the country today."

"Go and see the clubs, casinos and cafes in Colombo. Most of them are patronized by the INGO people who have come to help our people affected by the Tsunami," he observed and described them as "Crows who have come in search of dollars."
