Another traitor of the nation arrested

Wednesday, May 20, 2009

Lt. Col. Ranjith Perera hails from Bandarawela was attached to Army Intelligence as well as to the SF. He was a regular visitor to casinos and clubs in the Colombo. Arrested LTTE suicide cadre revealed that the Colonel had suicide cadres in his vehicle, when the President visited the ‘Deyata Kirula’ exhibition at the BMICH.

Recently State Intelligence Service (SIS) agents arrested a LTTE suicide cadre in Negombo who revealed the whereabouts of another suicide cadre in Wellawatte, residing in a luxury apartment located in 37th Lane. When SIS agents arrived at the apartment, second suicide cadre committed suicide by jumping from the 7th floor. SIS agents recovered four suicide kits. A mobile phone used by this LTTE agent had the phone number of an Army Colonel attached to Military Intelligence (MI) as well as to the SF.

The SIS agents questioned the suicide cadre arrested earlier, regarding this Colonel. The Tiger cadre revealed that this Colonel facilitated the transportation of LTTE cadres and suicide kits to several areas. Lt. Col. Ranjith Perera attached to the Ratmalana Army Transit Camp was arrested by State Intelligence Service (SIS).

The suicide cadre further said that they had tried their utmost to carry out a suicide mission during the recent ‘Deyata Kirula’ exhibition at the BMICH. Their target had been to kill the President, the Defence Secretary or Army Commander. But the attempt had failed as the security cordon was too tight. The Colonel had suicide cadres in his vehicle, when the President visited the ‘Deyata Kirula’ exhibition at the BMICH.

Reportedly, the LTTE had paid this Colonel, who hails from Bandarawela, millions of rupees for his assistance. He was attached to Army Intelligence as well as to the SF.
A senior intelligence officer said they were tracking the Colonel for a long time, as he was regular visitor to casinos and clubs in the city. The SIS agents monitored this Colonel’s movements closely and found that he had bought a car worth Rs 3.5 million.

This traitor must be questioned and hang to death. We must not pardon him. This is the time to execute him in public for a lesson for future traitors.

Mount Lavinia Additional Magistrate Darshika Wimalasiri, yesterday, allowed an application by the Colombo Crimes Division to obtain a report pertaining to the personal bank account of a Lieutenant Colonel attached to the Ratmalana Intermediate Camp and residing at the Kendalanda Army Residencies.

It is alleged that the Lieutenant Colonel had helped an activist of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), who was involved in a plot to assassinate the President.

On the basis of the information divulged by the LTTE activist, police had searched the Ratmalana office of the suspect and found a micro pistol, 125.9 mm cartridges, 30.22 cartridges and cash amounting to Rs. 1.4 million and 48 Singapore dollars. Police also informed Court that two vans, supposedly purchased by the suspect with LTTE funds, had been taken into custody. Chief Inspector Jayatilake, acting under the instructions of SP Vas Gunawardane (who is also director of the Colombo Crimes Division) produced the ‘B’ Report in Court in connection with the two vans.
