FLASH: Prabhakaran no more ! LTTE defeated
President to address the nation soon!

Sun May 17, 2009 4:09 am

According to unconfirmed reports from Colombo, the 54 year old tiger supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran has committed suicide along with more than 300 of his deputies and senior cadres in the Mullivaaikkaal area in Mullaitheevu district. Unconfirmed reports also say that he and several of his senior deputies were injured before embraced death voluntarily.Reports said that the armed forces had identified the location where Prabhakaran was staying and demolished it through powerful explosives.

There were also conflicting reports that the LTTE had triggered off a huge explosion in which their bodies were destroyed after taking cyanide first. Defence sources say on Friday night, a huge fireball was seen inside the jungle area where the once formidable Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) army has been staging its last stand. The speculation was that Prabhakaran, no longer able to flee by boat, decided to blow himself up along with his top lieutenants -- ensuring his body is never found and his aura lives on.

Defence officials say Prabhakaran's "ruthless megalomania" included the use two body doubles -- meaning that if he (or the body) is found, DNA tests may be necessary to make sure they have the right man.

His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces arrived in the country today early morning, earlier than planned, after a two day official visit to the Kingdom of Jordan where he participated the G-11 summit. Before step on the Sri Lankan soil, HE paid tribute to his motherland by placing his forehead on the ground and worshiping the land he has liberated from terrorism.

President Mahinda Rajapakse is expected to announce about Prabhakaran’s “death” today, Sunday May 17th 2009, officially and publicly by in a special address to the nation.

LTTE had begun blowing up its arms dumps and arsenals. Important documents were also being destroyed. More than 300 tiger cadres had surrendered to the army in the last 2 days, reports said. Among those who surrendred was Isaichelvi the widow of former tiger political leader Thamilselvan. Swarnam and Shasikumar master, two senior LTTE terrorists were killed during confrontations ensued with security forces at Vellamullivaikkal, yesterday (May 16), said Military Spokesperson Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara reporting to media.

In the meantime, in a dramatic coincidence, Tamil Nadu’s political parties sympathetic to the Tamil Tigers were routed in the Lok Sabha elections Saturday as the Sri Lankan military dealt a crippling blow to the tigers in the island, taking control of their last land and possibly killing their leader. As the Sri Lankan army announced “the total liberation of the island from three decades of terror”, vote count in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu showed that all seven candidates of the PMK and three of the four MDMK candidates had lost. The losers included MDMK’s passionately pro-Tiger chief Vaiko, who in 1989 made a dramatic secret trip to Sri Lanka’s north to meet Tamil Tiger chief Velupillai Prabhakaran. Vaiko, who warned that “rivers of blood” would flow in Tamil Nadu if LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran got injured in Sri Lanka, was defeated by over 50,000 votes from Virudnagar constituency.

Worse, the AIADMK of former chief minister J. Jayalalithaa, who had surprised everyone by threatening to send the Indian Army to Sri Lanka if her alliance won most of Tamil Nadu’s 39 parliamentary seats, suffered a stunning blow winning only nine seats.

Sri Lankan president returns home greeted with celebrations

COLOMBO, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapakse returned home on Sunday morning from a visit to Jordan and was greeted with lighting of crackers in celebration and hoisting of the national flag throughout the island. The Sri Lankan president kissed the ground upon alighting the aircraft at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Colombo.

The president is due to address the nation later Sunday announcing his troops' victory over rebel Tamil Tigers. "I will be going back to a country that has been totally freed from the barbaric acts of the LTTE. This freedom comes after 30 long years", Rajapakse said in Jordan on Saturday. Sri Lankan troops are on throes of completely sealing the fate of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam rebels.

The rebels are now trapped to an area of less than 2 sq km as opposed to an area of 19,000 sq km they once held in the island's north and eastern provinces when Rajapakse was elected president in late 2005. Troops said on Saturday that they had gained control of the entire coastal area shutting all avenues of exit for rebel leaders.

Whereabouts of the rebel leader Velupillai Prabakaran and other senior leaders have been much speculated. The LTTE rebels have been fighting for an independent homeland since the 1970s. The campaign erupted into full-scale civil war in 1983 and cost more than 70,000 lives.
