COLOMBO -(Dow Jones)- Air traffic controllers in Sri Lanka may not report to work Thursday if a salary issue is not resolved Wednesday, the president of the Air Traffic Controllers Association of Sri Lanka said.

Meetings with government officials Wednesday failed to resolve a disagreement over salaries, Ranjit Perera, the president of the association told Dow Jones Newswires.

"They took our message to heart and I am sure there will be a resolution. But if they don't, there could be a problem tomorrow morning. Members of the association have already called in sick," he said.

Sri Lanka has 67 air traffic controllers, and around one-quarter are needed at any given time to manage air traffic at Sri Lanka's Bandaranaike International Airport.

Perera said association members were not willing to prolong the negotiations after the officials of the Airport and Aviation Services of Sri Lanka wanted seven days to consider the salary revision.
