Woman journalist arrested
Suicide cadre admits journalist helped her

A woman suicide cadre, in police custody, had told investigators that a journalist helped her to find accommodation in the Wellawatte police area. She had come from Tirukkovil about three months ago, a senior police spokesman said.

The woman journalist, Parameshwari Munusami aged 24, working for "Mawbima" weekend Sinhala paper on freelance basis was also arrested in Colombo on suspicion of helping the LTTE woman suicide cadre.

Woman Journalist Parameshvari Munnusami had admitted she had been staying in the same lodge at 28 Ramakrishna road, Wellawatta with the suspected woman.

"Once we established the true identity of the suicide bomber, plainclothesmen visited her mother living in Tirukkovil. She denied any knowledge of the suspect," he said. Inquiries revealed that the suicide cadre’s father had been killed in a security forces operation several years ago.

Although police received information about the assassin’s arrival in Colombo, they had failed to locate her hideout. Police subsequently tracked down her brother, an undergraduate at the Moratuwa University. "On our instructions he gave a telephone call and she set up a meeting in the Wellawatte police area," another officer said. When she arrived at the meeting place plainclothesmen apprehended her. Under interrogation she had revealed the identity of the journalist who helped her to find accommodation," he said.

According to a senior police official, shortly after the arrest of the suicide cadre, the journalist had contacted police and demanded the immediate release of her associate. She is attached to a weekend Sinhala newspaper. She is under interrogation for her alleged links with the LTTE.

The arrest of the suicide cadre led to the recovery of six claymore mines from a hideout in the Mirigama police area.

There must be a big mistake somewhere down the line. They do not help terrorists. Why does the police go and arrest these innocent journalists who only use a pen to criticize the GOSL. The policemen must be arrested and put on trial...........or else the FMM will be on the streets canvasing for the release of the journalist.

WELL DONE TO OUR POLICE FORCE AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC WHO ASSIST THE POLICE.

THE HELP RECEIVED FROM DISGRUNTLED TAMIL CIVILIANS HAS HELPED IN CURBING THE TERROR ATTACKS IN COLOMBO.

WE REMEMBER THE FMM AND THEIR QUICK RESPONCE TO AN ABDUCTION PURPORTEDLY SET UP BY THE PEOPLE CONCERNED THEMSELVES TO DISCREDIT THE GOSL.....AND HOPE THEY WILL BE WISER THIS TIME ROUND.

THE FMM HAS BECOME THE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

LET THE POLICE FORCE BE ASSURED OF OUR SUPPORT FOR THEIR EFFORTS. THANKS ONCE AGAIN FOR A JOB WELL DONE.
