UNAWATUNA:A wedding in Galle Police area took a dramatic turn when a woman with a child yelling and crying gate crashed as the newly married couple was about to set off on their honeymoon. When the woman dragged the newly married couple to the police station it was revealed that the groom a 33-year-old tri-shaw driver had earlier deeply fallen in love with a woman, who worked as a minor employee and already had a one-year-old son.

The child was no obstruction to their love and they got married last year at Bandaragama. They lived happily for some time until they started to quarrel regularly and the husband often returned home late at night. This reached a climax when the man took the marriage certificate one day and left home for good. The poor woman lodged a complaint with the police but her husband did not come for the inquiry. The Police postponed the inquiry for last Monday and informed him to be present at the inquiry on that day. He came to the Police station and obtained permission to leave soon to attend an alms giving. He had already left the police station when his wife came for the inquiry. When she heard that her husband had left to attend an alms giving she went straight to the tri-shaw stand and made inquiries about him. Then the time was about 2 pm.

" Don't you know? He is getting married today. We have also been invited to a party tomorrow," was their reply. She lost no time in making for the bride's house where she saw the wedding in full swing and the new couple just coming out to leave on their honeymoon. The bride's mother was standing before them holding a vessel of water with white flowers. The next moment they were all shocked to see a women with a child, disrupting the whole affair, but they soon learnt that they had been led astray by the bridegroom who was a bigamist.

She took the new couple to the police station by force in their wedding suits, but the bride was without her veil.

All of them were in tears when they left the police station after their statements were recorded on the instructions of the Officer In charge of the fraud Investigation Division of Galle Police, Sub Inspector Ariyaratne.
