A case against film star Ranjan Ramanayake cannot be moved to another court as requested by the plaintiff, Sri Lanka’s law enforcement authorities said.

Solicitor General CR de Silva told journalist KS Udayakumar that the request cannot be accommodated as the hearing has already begun.

However, the alleged victim can make an application to the Appeals Court, Solicitor General said.

Ramanyake is accused of attempting to rape an executive officer of an advertising company.

A request has been made to the Attorney General (AG) to change the case filed in Gangodawila magistrate's court to another court.

The plaintiff through her lawyers has informed the AG that she was not satisfied the way the magistrate conducted the case.

The alleged victim in her complaint to the police stated that Ramanyake requested her to come to his home to discuss an advertising campaign for a Sinhala film.

At the film star’s residence he tried to sexually abuse her, the plaintiff told Mirihana police.

The Gangodawila magistrate has released the accused on a surety bail of Rs. 50,000.
